Pasta- Upma!!!

OK! After nearly two years here goes my first post in my new blog! I love experimenting with my weird ideas that sometimes turns out good!!
PASTA UPMA πŸ˜€ , I am just going to make it look very simple. For those who hate upma, but love pasta. πŸ˜€ I am sure this one will make you say: β€œWoah! Really? Let me just try this!….(after tasting)  Mmmm-hmm YUMM! Can I have some more? β€œ ;).  Haha. This Idea got into me, when I had a fight with my mom during our breakfast. My mom made her favorite upma today *Sigh* Sooji rava upma , which I don’t like it at all, instead I asked her to make pasta for me, as usual she refused. Something inside my head kept telling β€œ Pasta and Upma, Pasta and upma, Pasta and Upma – Boom!!” , I told my mom : β€œMa! Why not Pasta-upma?” with a big grin on my face.  β€œIf you want, you cook for yourself! You and your weird ideas!!” said my mom.  I miss my dad, I am sure if he was here, he would have definitely loved my weirdness in cooking also. πŸ˜€ Appa! This is for you.  Fill your stomach by just looking at the picture. πŸ˜€
A very easy and simple 4 steps recipe. Instead of sooji, we add here the Penne or any pastas of your choice!
Well, as a first timer I liked it! Maybe you should also try this. Have fun. As Julia Child says : “Bon Appetit!” πŸ˜€
Ingredients:
2 cups of whole wheat pasta (Penne or any pasta of your choice!)
Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
1 tomato, chopped finely
1 onion- chopped finely
1 capsicum and carrot (chopped and blanched)
Vegetable Oil – 2 tbsp
Salt to taste
Cumin powder – 1/8 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/8 tsp
Red Chili powder – 1/8 tsp
Method:
  • Heat water in a pan and add salt. Add pasta and boil till Al Dente – cooked well. Drain and set aside. Save about a cup of the pasta water used to boil the pasta.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and onion. Saute till pink.
  • Add turmeric, chili and cumin powders and mix well. Add tomatoes and salt and cook till oil separates. Add blanched vegetables at this point.
  • Add cooked pasta and mix well. Add some pasta water, about 1/4 to 1/2 cup and cook till all the water evaporates. Garnish and serve
