Chakka-Pradhaman (Jackfruit Payasam)

We got a huge jackfruit as a small token of love from our neighbour. My Grandmother managed to chop half of it and make Ellai Adai. So, it was my mother’s turn to prepare something out of the remaining pieces. Then came a thought of preparing this Jackfruit Payasam, traditionally known as Chakka Pradhaman by Keralites. One of the most important sweet dishes served in any Keralite marriages. (Yayy! Perks of Being a Palakkad iyer! :D).. Get ready to know more about this sweet tooth dish!!!

OK! The Main Ingredients:
a) Jackruit – 6-7 pieces
b) Jaggery- 200g
c) Milk – 250 ml
d) Cardamom
e) Ghee (Optional)

1) Chop jackfruit into pieces (as small as you can!)

2) Boil the chopped pieces in the microwave for 10 minutes or soak and cook those pieces in boiling water. Cool this pulp and grind it in the mixer or food processor.

3)  Heat a pan/tawa. Add the pulp and stir continuously for 5 minutes.

4) Add 200g of jaggery (handful) and stir continuously.

5) Allow the ingredients to boil till it becomes thick in consistency. Add Cardamom (a pinch) and two spoons of ghee.

6) Allow it cool. Add 250 ml of milk and stir.

7) Now, the Chakka Pradhaman/ Jackfruit Payasam is ready to be served. =)

(Suggestion: Can be served hot or cold. Either ways you will definitely feel euphoric!)

Until we meet again!! Take care. Au Revoir! =)
