Green Moong Dhal Kichdhi

I had the first taste of this “Green Moong Dhal Kichdhi” at one of my aunt’s place. From that day ,I completely rely on this healthy kichdhi, packed with many nutrients and most importantly, proteins. As bland as it may look, the taste is more similar to yellow dhal that we usually make at home. Knowing the fact that Im not a fan of South Indian Kichdi, my Grandmother now makes this Green Moong Dhal Kichdhi.

For Green Moong Dhal all you need is :-

(This is for quantity of two servings)

  •  3/4 Broken Green gram
  •  100g of raw rice
  •  2 green chillies
  •  Turmeric – half a spoon
  • Jeera
  • Ginger and garlic (3 pods)- as per requirement
1. In a cup of 250g- mix both the green moong dhal and the raw rice
2. Pressure cook for five minutes or cook them in a rice cooker for 15 minutes.
3. Meanwhile heat the Kadai/ Pan and two spoons of olive oil adding some jeera, onions( if needed), finely chopped ginger/gralic and chopped green chillies. Sautee them.
4. Add the cooked dhal and the rice mixture to the kadai/pan- Add salt according to taste and requirement.
5. Keeping adding water and let it boil.
6. When it thickens keep mixing and add a spoon of ghee
It may look way more liquidy, but gets thicken as time goes by.
Preferable to have it with any pickle of your choice or Papad/Popadam/Appalam.
Another best side dish could be a gravy of Tomato and Onions.

I’m already relishing every spoon of this dish for my dinner.
